Minister’s Annual Report

In 1880, on a small island between Ireland and England – women were first given the right to vote. In 1880, Thomas Edison and George Eastman both filed patents on new inventions of theirs – the incandescent light bulb and flexible rolls of film. In 1880, a small group of Congregationalists built a stone church – in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

The world has changed a lot in 130 years. Along the way, many pastors from this church have fashioned words to convey what the passing years have wrought… stories told of budgets to balance, attendance that has waxed and waned, members who have come and gone, and buildings to upkeep and sustain. Our church has enough history behind it now to have a sense that some things never change.

It remains my privilege to be the pastor of this very special and sacred space. It is a trust and responsibility never lightly taken. I am heartened by the support and spirit of this congregation who continues to value the ministry we share together in Christ’s name. I remain committed to providing the pastoral presence that makes this church dear to both this congregation and community.

We continue to provide a Sunday morning worship service that I trust remains relevant and reverent. We reach out both locally and globally to others in need with Christian care and compassion. This church remains a safe place offering trust and acceptance to all of God’s children. We remain viable and relevant to those that we seek to serve in Christ’s name.

My work continues to be first and foremost, your good and faithful pastor. I pray my ministry still touches you with some thoughtful words shaped for a Sunday morning sermon, prayers shared in home or hospital, support given to family or friends, dignity offered at times of arrival and passing. I remain committed to offering my very best, and remain open to listening to new ideas and ways of being your pastor. Even though I’ve been doing this professionally for now more than thirty years, there is always room for growth with God and all of you.

Challenges and changes have always been a part of the church’s past and will continue to be so in the future. Still we remain committed to being a Christian presence that will be here for future generations. I trust that together we will continue to follow the path God sets before us… "to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God." (Micah 6:8)
